Montini wins the IHSA 3A State Championship

IHSA 3A State Final

The Kaneland Knights took on the Montini Catholic Broncos for the IHSA 3A state championship game earlier today.

Kaneland would strike first in the bottom of the first. Hannah Theobald drove in the first run with a double.

The Knights would add 4 more runs in the second. After taking advantage of some defensive mishaps, Natalie Kraemer delivered an RBI single to score Hailey Roach.

In the third, Kaneland added another run after Hailey Roach walked. They would make the score 7-0 after a fielder’s choice brought in a run.

Emilee Erickson was in control on the mound for Kaneland, going into the fifth inning, she had 8 strikeouts.

Montini would get on the board in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back home runs from Nicole Cuchran and Alyssa Filkowski (2 run) made the score 7-3. In the bottom half, Donny Sommesi homered making the score 8-3.

Emilee Erickson had 11 strikeouts going into the seventh inning.

Montini would look to battle back in the final inning. The first run would come home on a walk. The Broncos got a double from Lauren Litoria to score two runs making the score 8-6. Montini would tie the game at 8-8 after singles from Lynch and Elyse Spaccapniccia. They would then take the lead 12-8 off of two 2 run singles from Cynthia Ng and Alyssa Filkowski. Montini would finish the inning scoring 12 runs and take a 15-8 lead.

Montini would keep Kaneland quite in the bottom half becoming the IHSA 3A State Champion. Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding game.
