Today, September 15 the Wheatland Spikes 16u Holloway took on the Mizuno Hawks 16u Frencl at the Chicago Super 72 NIT. The game featured quality pitching and fielding on both sides.
Through the first three innings both pitchers, Alisyn Catenacci (Spikes) and Ashley Nelson (Hawks), showed impressive pitch ability allowing no runs to cross the plate.
The Hawks would be able to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Morgan Spicer and Miceala Lacovetti got on with two walks. Katelyn Halfacre would double to left bring in the games first run. A batter later, Syd Siedentopf would hit a fielder’s choice to second, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Spikes would respond. Raeghan Morefield would lead off the inning with a double. A pitch would hit Delaney Kunkel and Sammy Martinez would advance the runners with a sac bunt. Morefield would come in to score later in the inning cutting the lead to one.
Ashley Nelson, for the Hawks, would go the distance allowing the lone run over 7 innings. She also struck out 2 and allowed 6 hits.
