Decatur Township, IN - The Decatur Central Hawks took on the Greenwood Woodmen on Tuesday afternoon in Mid-State Conference play. The Hawks leaned on junior pitcher Kenzie Smith in the early goings of the game and the bats got going in the fifth for the Hawks scoring 6 runs.
Greenwood would start the game off with two singles and have the bases loaded with no outs. Kenzee Smith settled down and ended the Woodmen threat by striking out three in a row.
In the second inning the Hawks scratched three runs across the plate to take an early 3-0 lead. Kylie Eads started things off getting on base via a walk. The Hawks would get Eads to second base as Dylann Cravens laid down a sac bunt. A few batters later Avery Huffman drove in the first run of the game and was followed by Kaylee Gross tripling to right center to score two runs.
Decatur Central would add one more run in the third inning. Back-to-back walks to Payton Baxter and Kylie Eads would be followed by a RBI line drive single off the bat of Emma Etter-Cox.
The Greenwood offensive was unable to put anything together against Kenzee Smith after she settled down in the top of the first. Smith threw 5 innings allowing only 2 hits and struck out 14 of the 19 batters she faced.
Decatur Central would end the game in the fifth inning tacking on 6 more runs and putting the run rule into effect. The Hawks inning was highlighted by a Kylie Eads deep 3 run home run to left center.
