Merrillville, IN – The Andrean 59ers took on the Munster Mustangs on Monday afternoon in a Northwest Crossroads Conference game. The Mustangs’ balanced attack helped them to a 7-0 win, as they had 8 total hits and in the circle, Emily Dato struck out 12.
The Mustangs would get on the board first scoring three runs in the top of the third. Munster would load the bases due to a walk and two fielder’s choices. An error would bring in the first run of the ball game and Hailey Sullivan would then follow up with a sac fly to bring the score to 2-0. The final run of the inning would come in on a ground out to third.
Munster would add two more runs in the fourth inning increasing their lead to 5-0. After Sam Sellers reached on an error, Dayton Elliott drove a double to centerfield putting two runners in scoring position. Daija Williams would then drive in Sellers with a single to right to add to the lead. The Mustangs would score the final run of the inning on a ground out.
The 59ers struggled offensively against Emily Dato who had command in the circle. They were led by Ashley Talaga who went 1-3 with a double.
In the top of the seventh, the Mustangs would add on two more insurance runs giving them a 7-0 lead and the win. Emily Dato was able to keep the Andrean offense at bay allowing only 2 hits while striking out 12. Munster now moves to 11-5 and 6-0 in NCC play.
