Crown Point vs Penn - Highlights & Game Recap


Mishawaka, IN – The Penn Lady Kingsmen met up with the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs Thursday night in a non-conference game. This back-and-forth contest featured mature at-bats from both sides producing 17 hits between the two teams. Crown Point would put five runs on the board in the fifth to take a commanding 7-3 lead and the eventual win. The fifth inning was highlighted with a clutch three-run blast from Maggie Ballentine.
 
The Lady Kingsmen would get on the board first scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. After a groundout, three singles from Brenna Brown, Addyson Kois, and Mackenzie Griman loaded the bases for Penn. Maddie Calvin would drive in the first run of the game with a sac fly to center and she was followed with a two-RBI single from Victoria Budzinski.
 
Crown Point would look to answer in the top of the fourth. After a groundout, Anna Holloway drove a double to centerfield to start the rally. Mallory McMahon would then double to score Holloway cutting Penn’s lead to two. Maggie Ballentine singled to put runners on the corners, Ballentine tried to steal second and the catcher’s throw sailed into centerfield allowing McMahon to score and the Bulldogs would only trail 3-2.
 
In the top of the fifth, Crown Point would put a five spot to take the lead over the Lady Kingsmen. The inning would start with back-to-back singles from Katie Neal and Brooke Manhatton. Then Grace Frazier singled on a bunt to load the bases for the Lady Bulldogs. Crown Point would tie the game on an error and take the lead on a sac fly off the bat of Mallory McMahon. The Lady Bulldogs would add some insurance runs with a three-run homer from Maggie Ballentine, Crown Point would now be in control 7-3. 
 
Brinkley Kita would settle down after the three-run third as she went 4.2 innings before Madi Elish entered for her 2.1 innings of work allowing only one hit.
 
The Bulldogs now move to 14-3 overall and will take on the Lake Central Indians on Tuesday, April 30. For the Penn Lady Kingsmen, they are now 9-3 overall and have a matchup with Center Grove on Saturday, April 27.
