2019 IHSAA 2A State Final Postseason Journeys

In the Class 2A IHSAA State Championship, we will see Tecumseh and Bremen battle for the title.
 
Take a look at the schools’ postseason paths to the State Final. 
 
Tecumseh
 
The Tecumseh Braves have had quite the successful 2019 campaign as they are 26-3 overall and went 6-2 in Pocket Athletic Conference play.
 
Tecumseh defeated North Posey 6-3 the first round of Sectional play and then took on Forest Park winning in five innings 12-2. In the Sectional Championship, the Braves took home the victory over Evansville Mater Dei 4-2.
 
In the Regional, the Braves beat Southridge with a score of 5-2 to advance to Semi-State.
 
The Braves took on South Vermillion in the first round of the Semi-State and won with a score of 9-4.
 
Tecumseh would meet Union County to see who would advance to the State Final.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Tecumseh’s Reagan Hight homered to left giving them a 1-0 lead.
 
Tecumseh would then add on two more runs on the bottom of the third. A leadoff walk to Savannah McGee and she advanced to second on a bunt single from Kinsly Heichelbech. They would advance to second and third on a sac bunt from Camryn Boylls. Kaybree Oxley singled to center to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Braves.
 
The Braves would tack on another five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chloe Holder singled and then advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. With two outs, Savannah McGee singled to center score one, and Kinsly Heichelbech and Camryn Boylls followed with RBI singles. Then Kaybree Oxley homered to left making the score 8-0.
 
Tecumseh would score two more runs one in the fifth and one in the sixth inning. Union County was only able to manufacture one run in the sixth. Tecumseh’s pitcher Ashtyn Green went seven innings allowing six hits, one hit, and striking out five.
 
Bremen
 
The Bremen Lions have only lost two games this season as they are 28-2 overall and went 11-1 in Northern Indiana Conference play. 
 
The Lions took on Prairie Heights in the first round of Sectional play winning 10-0 in five innings. In the Sectional Championship, Bremen defeated Central Noble 9-1. 
 
In the Regional Bremen faced South Adams and shut them out winning 9-0.
 
Bremen would then take on Oak Hill in the first game of Semi-State. The Lions defeated Oak Hill 9-0 to advance and play Boone Grove in the Semi-State Final.
 
Boone Grove would take an early one-run lead in the third inning. Rachel Pate doubled to start the inning and was followed by a single from Erica Hoffman to put runners at the corners. Pate scored on a single off the bat of Elise Richards.
 
Bremen would respond in the top of the fourth with two runs. Erin Coffel led off the inning with a ground ball single, then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Coffel would later score on an error to make it 1-1. With two outs, Hanna Depoy walked, and Carly Snyder was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Caitlyn Myers singled to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Lions.
 
In the fifth inning, Rylee Hershberger singled to lead off thing off for the Lions. Then with two outs, Kaelyn Shively homered to make the score 4-1.
 
Boone Grove would cut the lead to two in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kellie Marcheschi doubled and would later score on a ground out.
 
The Lions would then tack on four more runs in the top half of the seventh. Rylee Hershberger doubled, and Erin Coffel followed with a two-run shot. Bremen would add another run on a double to right off the bat of Kaelyn Shively. The final run would score on a sac bunt giving the Lions a six-run lead headed into the bottom half.
 
Bremen’s Kaelyn Shively was able to keep Boone Grove at bay going seven innings allowing six hits, two runs while striking out nine.
